First Graders and Families,

Happy Spring !

In reading we have been focusing in on illustrations in fictional text to learn more about the details (elements) of the story.  We will now look closely at nonfiction text- zooming in on the photos and other text features to learn all we can about a topic.

Using and learning how to better use nonfiction text and it's features will in turn will help us with our research writing about a mammal.   This skill will be used for fact finding.   We will also be taking a field trip to watch our learning come to life at the zoo.

In math we have spent our time learning about the  place value of numbers.  We have used this knowledge to better understand larger numbers.  We have also used this to help us add and subtract larger numbers.

After spring break we will start our new life science unit looking at how plant and animal offspring compare and contrast to their parent.

Important:

All first graders enter the front doors and meet in the cometeria (lunch room) before school.  First grade teachers greet students there and walk down to our classrooms together when the bell rings.
