Summer Library Begins on June 4th!

 Dear Comet Community,

Did you know that when kids read over the summer they are more likely to leap ahead when they return to school? This is often called the “summer leap,” and we’ve made it a priority to keep your child’s skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.

This year, our school signed up to participate in the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge, a free online reading program that invites students to keep track of their reading minutes all summer long. By participating this year, our goal is two-fold: for our students to read the most minutes possible to celebrate the joy of reading alongside our community,  and to help unlock book donations for kids in need across the country through the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Give Back! When children participating in the Summer Reading Challenge collectively reach minute milestones (25, then 50, then 100 million minutes), Scholastic will donate at least 200,000 books nationwide. So the more our school reads, the more kids we help! Additionally, when students enter their reading minutes from May 6 to September 6, they will earn digital rewards, and gain access to fun videos, activities, and more! You’ll also find summer booklists for all ages (in English and Spanish) on the Challenge website. I invite you to learn more about the Summer Reading Challenge at scholastic.com/summer. You can also visit scholastic.com/readapalooza to learn more about the Summer Reading Give Back, and how Scholastic is working to expand book access for families nationwide.   Along with Scholastic fun, each child that participates will enjoy a special reading celebration when they return to Skyview this fall!  Your child’s login information is included in your report card folder.

Our Skyview Staff can’t wait to support and celebrate our summer readers earn these minutes!  We will be meeting all Comet Students weekly at the Anythink Wright Farms, 5877 E 120th Avenue Thornton, CO 80602 to get them signed up, pick out just-right books and inspire them to explore new books, along with a weekly prize!
