Comet News: Hispanic Heritage Month, Spirit Bus, PTO

Comet News: Hispanic Heritage Month, Spirit Bus, PTO

Skyview Mission: To engage and inspire all students to innovate, achieve, and succeed in a safe and supportive environment by ensuring high-quality instruction in every classroom, every day.

Dear Families,

This year, our nation celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15) with the theme "Unidos, Somos Más" — "Together, We Are More." This theme reminds us that our strength as a community comes from the connections we build across our differences. At Skyview, we're proud to celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino students, families, and staff throughout this month. We encourage families to talk with your Comets about what heritage and culture mean to your family, and to share those stories with us. Together, we truly are more!

πŸŽ‰ Good Things

  • The VOCO choir had its first rehearsal yesterday. The energy was tremendous! We can’t wait to hear this year’s songs!
  • The new math program is bringing out the best in our young mathematicians. Students are talking about math more and solving problems in a variety of ways.
  • The Skate City Glow party was so much fun! We had 85 students staking last night. Thanks for supporting Skyview and playing together last night.

🏫 School Updates

Monday: Horizon Homecoming Spirit Bus

Next week is homecoming for Horizon High School. Their cheer team, athletes, and band will be visiting Skyview on Monday to share their pride and school spirit with our students.

Tuesday PTO Meeting – Help Plan Trunk or Treat

Our next PTO meeting is 5:30 - 6:30 on Tuesday. Please join us to plan Trunk or Treat, a coveted Skyview tradition. We need your help to make this an unforgettable evening.

Friday: Lockdown Drill

In our ongoing effort to keep you informed, we wanted to let you know that we are conducting a mandatory Lockdown drill next Friday, Sept. 25th, at Skyview.

Lockdown drills, similar to fire drills, are an opportunity for students and staff to learn or re-familiarize themselves with the necessary steps to take in the event of a specific emergency in our building. We wanted to inform you about next Friday’s drill because we recognize these types of drills, while necessary, can create some anxiety for students and parents.

The goal of all drills is to teach confidence and allow students and staff to be prepared for an emergency. Throughout the school year, we practice numerous safety procedures to help our staff and students respond quickly, calmly, and safely to a number of situations. For more information about all of the district safety and emergency drills/protocols, visit www.adams12.org/safety.

We encourage families to talk to their children about drills. This is a great opportunity to reassure them that the drills are in place to remind them of the correct plan/steps to follow during any emergency in the school.

I appreciate the partnership we have with our families and will continue to keep you informed of things at our school.

Morning Drop-Off Reminder

Skyview opens at 7:40 for students. No supervision is available before this time, so please drop off students no earlier than 7:40. We also strongly discourage students from going to the park before school. No adult supervision is at the park, and we’ve heard of several incidents of fights and other unsafe behavior at the park before school hours. We want all students to arrive at Skyview safely and ready to learn.

Lock your Bikes and Scooters

We love seeing students riding bikes and scooters to school. We don’t love when they are stolen from the bike rack, which happened this week. Please use a lock to keep your bikes and scooters safe. As stated in our Student Handbook, Skyview is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Slow the Roll at the Crosswalk

Please slow down in front of the school. Cars are moving very quickly through the crosswalk, and we need your cooperation to slow the roll to keep all our students safe.
